CPHS Baseball: Regional assignment and regular season statistics

Lucas Adcock has hit the only grand slam of the season thus far for Sand Springs.

With the regular season behind them, it's do or die for the Charles Page High School varsity baseball team. This week the Sandites will depart for their Regional Tournament as they hope to earn a ticket to the State Championship at Oral Roberts University.

The Sandites had a tough start to the season, going 4-6 before rattling off fourteen straight victories, the second-longest win streak of any 6A team this season. Since their streak came to an end they have won four and lost four and are coming off a 4-0 Senior Night upset to Southmoore.

Sand Springs finished the regular season 22-10 overall with a 7-5 district record for fourth place in district standings. They also took first place at the Spartan-Tiger Turf War in mid-April.

The double-elimination Regional Tournament will begin Wednesday at Owasso High School. The host team will play Sapulpa at 10:00 a.m. The Sandites will play a Highway 97 Rivalry game against Sapulpa at 12:30 p.m., then will play Owasso at 3:00 p.m.

Owasso (25-7) won their district with a 10-2 record. Of their seven losses this year, only three came at the hands of Oklahoma teams. Sand Springs has defeated two of those three.

Sapulpa (22-9-1) placed fourth in the same district with Owasso. The Rams defeated the Chieftains 1-0 and 6-1 in district action.

The Sandites have yet to meet Owasso this year, but fell 9-4 to Sapulpa on April 20th.

The Regional tournament will be held at Stigall Field on the campus of Owasso High School at 12901 East 86th Street North.

CPHS Baseball: Sabercats Sabotage Sandite Senior Night

The Charles Page High School varsity baseball team (22-10, 7-5) celebrated seven players and two managers on Senior Night, but the festivities were marred by a 4-0 upset loss to Southmoore High School (8-26, 3-9).

Conner Dennis, Braden Millican, Riley Rutledge, Braden Askew, Brock Youngblood, Ty Steelman, Kameron Adcock, Morgan Schlehuber, and Maddie Ward each saw their final home game at the Sandite Baseball Complex.

Alec Spencer led the effort for the Sabercats, giving up only four hits and two walks against six strikeouts in the 4-0 shutout.

Two doubles and two singles in the top of the third gave Southmoore a 2-0 advantage with runs from Brendan Kirchoff and Austin Slate, and they padded their lead in the seventh.

Laif Bradshaw reached on an error, Donnie Gaines singled, and Bradshaw scored on a ground ball from Slate. Spencer drew a walk and a pair of balks brought in Slate for the final run of the game.

Steelman landed singles in the first and fourth innings, Askew doubled in the fourth, and Kyler Copeland doubled in the seventh.

Dennis (3-2, 4-2) pitched the first six innings, throwing seven hits and four strikeouts. Steelman (2-0, 2-1) started the seventh inning and threw one hit and one walk. Youngblood (3-4, 9-12) faced the final batter who grounded out.

Sand Springs will receive their Regional assignment Monday, April 30th and the tournament will be played May 3-5. The winning team will punch their ticket to the State Tournament at Oral Roberts University.
