CPHS Tennis: Lady Sandites send four to State Tournament

The Charles Page High School varsity tennis team sent four athletes to the OSSAA 6A State Tournament last week for the first time in school history.

Abigail McGehee qualified in #1 Singles and Delaney Blaylock qualified in #2 Singles. Madison Blaylock and Lindsey Smith qualified in #2 Doubles.

Bixby won the tournament overall and Jenks came in Runner-Up. 

The Boys' State Tournament will be held May 11-12 at the Oklahoma City Tennis Center. Sand Springs did not qualify any athletes. 

CPHS Baseball: Sandites top Sapulpa 8-6 at Regional Playoffs

Owasso - The Charles Page High School baseball team (23-10) kicked off the Regional Tournament Wednesday afternoon with an 8-6 victory over their arch-rivals.

The Sapulpa Chieftains (23-10-1) upset the host team from Owasso High School (26-8) in the first round of the tournament, but followed the 6-5 victory with a loss to the Sandites.

Sapulpa jumped out to an early lead with a 2RBI home run from Gage Williams and held a 2-0 advantage till the bottom of the fifth. 

Sand Springs loaded the bases with singles from Cal Watkins and Riley Rutledge, and a walk from Braden Askew. Watkins and courtesy runner Garrett McCallie came in on a single from Tyler Ash to tie the game.

Ty Steelman (3-0) took over for Braden Askew (4-3) in the top of the sixth as the Chieftains reclaimed the lead with two hits, a walk, and a pair of sacrifice flies. Cody Rossman and Bennett Henderson batted in Ethan Williams and Kyle Alcorn, respectively, for a 4-2 lead.

The Sandites put the game away in the bottom of the inning with eight hits and six runs to make it 8-4. Cale Savage doubled in Jacob Snodgrass, Watkins singled to score Kameron Adcock, and Rutledge doubled in Steelman for their first lead of the day. Ash batted in Watkins and Rutledge and scored on a single from Kyler Copeland for their final runs of the game.

Evan Casey walked and Gage Williams singled in the top of the seventh and both scored on a double from Ethan Williams, but Savage sent a ground ball to first base to secure the win.

Askew pitched seven hits, two strikeouts, and one walk in the first five innings. Steelman got the win with three hits and two walks in the final two innings. 

Sand Springs will return to action right away with a game against Owasso. The double-elimination tournament will continue Thursday with a rematch of Sand Springs vs Sapulpa.
