In December the Class 6A No. 2 ranked Mustang Broncos (12-1) dealt the No. 8 Charles Page High School wrestling team (4-5) their worst loss in 20 years at 58-9. On Friday they got a rematch, and while the Sandites closed the point differential slightly at 60-15, it marked the most points Sand Springs has given up since at least 1993, which is as far back as Sandite Pride’s records go. Mustang is currently ranked No. 48 in the nation by Intermatwrestle.com, with their only loss coming to nationally No. 25 Broken Arrow.

The Sandites are currently sporting their first losing record since 2007 after going 1-2 in Pool Play at the fifth annual Owasso Ram Duals, but they should have some easier wins on Saturday when they move into the Consolation bracket.

The winners bracket will feature nationally ranked No. 13 Allen, Texas, 6A No. 9 Deer Creek (6-7), the defending Kansas 5A State Champs from Goddard, 3A No. 1 Comanche (11-2), 4A No. 3 Cushing (12-0), 6A No. 6 Edmond Memorial (8-3), Mustang, and 6A No. 11 Owasso (6-5).

The consolation bracket will include 3A No. 5 Perry (7-6), Watonga (2-10), 5A No. 12 Claremore (6-13), Owasso JV, Kansas 6A Runner-Up Manhattan, 3A No. 10 Newkirk (6-7), Springdale, and Sand Springs. The Sandites will wrestle Watonga first, then either Newkirk or Claremore.

Mustang won the first three matches and took a 15-0 lead before the Sandites got on the board. Kidd Johnson pinned Ethan Norton (3-12, 3-17) at 126, Weldon Bryan pinned Carter Goodman (7-7), then Keegan Luton won a 9-4 decision over Blake Jones (15-7, 41-21) in a battle of returning State Qualifiers.

Preston Medlin (11-12, 24-34) got the Sandites on the board at 145 with a 7-0 decision over Claude Moates, but Colt Fischer responded with a 17-1 technical fall against Chase White (7-12, 7-14). Chris Kirby (19-8, 77-32) pinned Mark Boyd in 31 seconds to make it 20-9.

State Qualifier Joseph Sylvester pinned Dakota Taylor (1-13, 1-20), State Qualifier Brannigan Reyes pinned Sango Whitehorn (7-15, 9-19), State Champion Tate Picklo pinned Brooks Dudley (16-14, 26-22), State Qualifier Jack Kitchingham pinned Santana Naugle (0-3, 3-12) and State Champion Judson Rowland pinned Josh Fincannon (22-10, 61-44) to clinch the dual at 50-9.

Shane Wolf (9-9) broke up the Bronco run with a pin of Haeden London at 106, but Mustang won the final two matches as well. State Qualifier Shelton Chastain teched Mitchell Smith (9-4) and State Champion Tucker Owen teched Colton Luker (1-9, 2-9) to end the night.

The Class 6A No. 8 ranked Charles Page High School wrestling team (4-4) earned bonus points in all eight of their wins, with four pins and two forfeits.

Springdale started off well, with Zayne Lewis winning the first match 8-2 against Shane Wolf (8-9).
