CPHS Cross Country: Jacob Smith qualifies for State Championship
/The Charles Page High School Cross Country team saw their season come to an end Saturday at the Mohawk Sports Complex. Neither the boys nor girls placed high enough to advance to State as teams, but Jacob Smith qualified as an individual.
Broken Arrow freshman Payton Hinkle won the Girls 6A-East Regional Title in 18:48.9 and Edmond North senior Parker Jackson won the boys’ race in 16:24.1. Owasso won the team titles for both boys and girls.
The Lady Sandites placed thirteenth of fifteen schools, led by Erika Baker in 22:50 for fiftieth place. The boys were a solid ninth of sixteen teams, led by Smith in 17:59.4 for 29th place.
The top seven teams from each Regional will advance to State, as well as the top fourteen individual placers from a non-qualifying school. Smith was the No. 10 qualifier, while Nelson Yazzie missed the No. 14 spot by less than a second.
The 6A Boys State Championship will be held Saturday, October 27th at 12:45 p.m., followed by the Awards Assembly at 1:30 p.m. The race will be at Edmond Santa Fe High School at 1901 West 15th Street in Edmond. The top fifteen runners will receive medals.
