CPHS Wrestling: Sandites fall 34-31 to Lebanon, Missouri
/The Charles Page High School varsity wrestling team (10-2) lost their second dual of the season Friday evening to Lebanon, Missouri, but won their first two duals of the day to earn their way into the Gold Bracket of the Third Annual Ram Duals. The defending tournament champions will fight to retain their title Saturday morning.
Seth Jones (18-12 season, 20-15 career) kicked things off with a 4-3 decision over State Qualifier Cole Roark, but Cale Schmitz won a 4-1 decision against Irwin Portillo (21-15, 27-20) to tie it up.
Raegan Mowery took down Scott Patton (20-15, 27-17) at 138, Patton reversed for back points, then Mowery reversed, then Patton reversed again for a nearfall and an 8-4 lead to end the first period. He started the second period on top then Mowery reversed for a trio of back points before Patton managed to roll off them off the mat. Mowery took the top in the third period and Patron reversed for a 10-9 lead then picked up a caution point. Mowery escaped with seconds left, but Patton got the 11-10 decision for the 6-3 team lead.
Chris Kirby (14-4) dropped an 11-2 major decision to Caleb Shields, his first dual loss of the season, then the Sandites forfeited 152 to State Qualifier Trevor Christian.
Kaleb Tabor (17-8) took a 6-0 lead on Jerico Marquez before giving up a reversal. He reversed right back, however, and rode out the rest of the match for an 8-2 decision.
Dayvon Taylor (16-13) majored Jon Berry 12-1 to tie the dual at 13-13 but Ty Glendenning pinned Noah Almy (3-4, 27-24) in 2:48 to reclaim the Lebanon lead.
Josh Fincannon (8-11) took down Caleb Brown at 195, the Yellowjacket reversed for back points, then Fincannon reversed to end the first period. Fincannon took the lead with back points in the second period but Brown reversed again to enter the final stanza 7-6. The third period started neutral, Fincannon got the takedown, then Brown reversed one last time for the 9-8 decision.
The Sandites forfeited 220 and Landen Smith pinned Robbie Parrish (0-9) to clinch the dual at 34-13.
Brendon Wiseley (10-7, 11-7) pinned Cole Patton in 1:28, Carter Young (28-1) pinned Hogan Fisher in 0:59, then Riley Weir (18-6, 80-24) pinned State Qualifier Hunter Lewis in 4:16 to conclude the dual, 34-31.
The Sandites will return to Owasso tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. in the Championship bracket.
