CPHS Wrestling: Sandites send four to semifinals at Cushing Tournament

The Charles Page High School wrestling team sent a depleted roster to the Cushing Tiger Invitational Friday and is sitting in seventh place out of 29 teams. Four Sandites went undefeated on day one, three more are alive in the consolation bracket, and five were eliminated from contention.

Scott Patton (10-1, 45-23) scored a 19-3 technical fall against Blanchard State Qualifier Dillon Berry, then pinned Trey Hudgens in 4:40 at 152 pounds. He will take on Wagoner’s Kane Bowman Saturday.

Chris Kirby (12-5, 34-15) received a first round bye at 160 and pinned Keedin Crockett in 3:30. On Saturday he will wrestle Perry’s Brody Harbour.

Kaden Glass (9-4) competed at 195 and recorded two falls. He pinned Daxx Arnold in 0:26 and Karson Austin in 1:03. He will have a tough opponent Saturday in Cushing State Qualifier Eriq Simpson.

Josh Fincannon (10-7, 24-24) pinned Shawn Graham in 1:31 and scored a 7-2 decision over Keegan Bradley at 220. He will meet Salina State Qualifier Bobby Goins in Saturday’s semifinal.

Christian Forbes (8-3) won a 9-6 decision against Antonio Rizzi but fell 5-0 to Cushing State Qualifier Luke Ahrberg at 106 pounds. He will wrestle Blackwell’s Aiden O’Dell in consolation.

Blake Jones (8-6) won his opening match 4-1 against Dylan Brown at 132 pounds, but was pinned by State Champion Dylan Avery. Next up for Jones is Salina’s Dathan Leach.

Brooks Dudley (3-1) pinned Cameron Haling in 2:00 and recorded a 7-3 decision against Grant Baber but fell 6-2 to Robert Woltkamp at 195. He will take on Blanchard’s Zack Bosse in consolation.

Preston Medlin (6-10) defeated David Schoen 9-0 at 145 pounds but lost 7-5 to Jared Thompson and 9-8 to Tyler Arnold.

Joseph Mattison (1-7) won a 6-0 decision against Gus Wood but fell to Logan Patton and Tristen Butler at 126.

Ethan Norton (0-2) was defeated 3-0 by Haven Pennington and pinned by Junior High State Champion Jordan Williams at 113 pounds.

Chase White (0-2) was pinned by Gavin Wood and Joshua Kime at 138 pounds.

Santana Naugle (0-3) fell 3-0 to Jimmy Phillips and was pinned by Lesharo Wildcat at 182 pounds.

The Sandites voided 120, 170, and heavyweight. They were also without regular starters Brendon Wiseley, Riley Weir, Seth Jones, Dayvon Taylor, and Riley Magee.
