Sand Springs JV Wrestling takes third place at Inola Tournament; Burns and Portillo make finals

The Charles Page High School wrestling team has incredible depth of talent and boasts numerous junior varsity wrestlers that could easily make varsity in most other schools. Most recently, the Sandite JV traveled to Inola and competed against varsity squads from Oklahoma and beyond. Carlsbad, New Mexico took first place in the tournament, followed by Pawhuska, Sand Springs, and the host team.
Irwin Portillo (6-4) competed at 126 pounds and took second place. He defeated Ivan Villareal (Carlsbad) 7-2 and Austin Mitchell (Pawnee) 5-3, but was pinned in 1:28 by Levi Youngwolf (Pawhuska).
Mikey Burns (3-1) competed at 160 pounds and took second place. He pinned Noah Leija (Carlsbad) in 2:32, John Fulton (Tulsa NOAH) in 1:36, and Warren Graves (Pawhuska) in 5:42 before falling in 3:29 to James Cole (Barnsdall).
Hunter Carter (4-4) competed at 106 and took third place. He lost his first match 13-6 to Shawn Martin (Carlsbad), but pinned Dallas McGill (Barnsdall) in 2:23 and Cyle Colclazier (Pawnee) in 5:04.
Colten Roberts (7-4) competed at 120 and took third place. He pinned Trevor Mora (Inola) in 1:36, but was pinned in 2:56 by Price Perrier of Pawhuska. In the consolation bracket he scored a 13-0 major decision over Landon Girty (Tahlequah Sequoyah) and topped Cade McNeil (Pawhuska) 8-5.
Mike Brown (4-3) competed at 182 pounds and took third place. He pinned Noah Bennett (Tahlequah Sequoyah) in 1:48 in the first round, but was pinned in 1:39 by Kaleb Aguila (Inola). In the consolations he received an injury default from Joseph Chavez (Carlsbad) and pinned Bennett in 0:56 in a rematch for third place.
Dominique Pipes (4-3) competed at heavyweight and took third place. He was defeated 4-1 in the opening round by Joel Buckner (Tahlequah Sequoyah), but bounced back by pinning teammate Ethan Hooper in 1:52. He then pinned James Collins (Barnsdall) in 1:59 and pinned Buckner in 4:51 in a rematch for third place.
Jacob Rampy (2-3) competed at 113 and took fourth place. He lost his first match 5-2 to Eric Merida (Owasso), pinned Dalton Clark (Bristow) in 0:29, then lost 7-1 to Merida in a rematch for third place.
Gavin Garcia (4-6) competed at 145 and took fourth place. He defeated Collin Elias 2-1, but was pinned in 5:01 by Fabian Padilla (Carlsbad). In the consolations he majored Josh Copeland (Tahlequah Sequoyah) 9-1 before falling 4-1 to Payton McCarty (Pawhuska) in the finals.
Kris Edwards (3-2) competed at 220 and took fourth place. He pinned Steven Marlow (Bristow) in 4:00, but was defeated 11-5 by Mat Smith. In the consolation bracket he pinned Marc Brannan (Carlsbad) in 0:33 before falling in 0:24 to Baylee Perigo (Barnsdall).
Hyatt Cartwright (4-3) competed at 138 and took fifth place. He lost his opening match 5-1 to Ethan Johnson-Klein (Carlsbad) and was pinned in 1:34 by Ky Allen (Barnsdall), but scored a 7-4 decision over Justice Thompson (Inola) in the placement match.
Hunter Willis (5-3) competed at 195 and took fifth place. He pinned Triston McCartney (Pawhuska) in 1:02, but was teched 19-4 by Jalen Johnson of Owasso. In the consolation bracket he pinned Tyler Burch (Skiatook) in 0:53 and scored an 8-5 decision over Sage Locust (Tahlequah Sequoyah) before falling in 2:09 to Matt Morquecho of Bristow.
Colby Heckenkamp (1-3) competed at 132 and took sixth place. He was pinned in 4:40 by Stephen Williams (Owasso), but rebounded with a pin of Rhett Gomez (Barnsdall) in 1:45 before falling in 2:43 to Micah Bynym (Inola). In the placement match he lost a close 9-6 decision to Xavier Clutter (Owasso).
Colten Sanders (1-8) competed at 170 pounds and took sixth place. He was pinned in 2:31 by Max McCombs (Inola), in 2:22 by Cody Connaughton (Skiatook), and in 3:02 by Bradley Cheater (Tahlequah Sequoyah), but he pinned Christian Ramirez (Carlsbad) in 1:24.
Cody Motes (1-4) competed at 152 pounds but didn't place. He defeated David Mase (Inola) 15-5, but fell 18-5 to Tanner Sublett (Inola) and was pinned in 3:41 by Trenton Rosson (Tahlequah Sequoyah).
Ethan Hooper (1-2) competed at heavyweight, but didn't place. He pinned Christian Dry (Tahlequah Sequoyah) in 4:58, but fell in 2:39 to Brody Jenkins (Inola) and in 1:52 to teammate Dominique Pipes.
