Billy Wooten - Class of 1953

William "Billy" Ray Wooten was a four-year starting catcher for Sand Springs High School from 1950 through 1953. He made the All State team in 1953.

In the 1953 State Tournament in Tahlequah, Wooten was brought in to pitch after the team ran out of pitchers. He struck out the first thirteen batters he faced.

Wooten signed with the St. Louis Cardinals in 1953 and played one season for their farm team in Ardmore. He amassed a 3-1 record on the mound in the 1954 season.

He retired from Texaco after 32 years of service.
